An Actor's Odyssey
Sebastian Belmont is an actor, writer, director, and creative producer with a practice grounded in performance, storytelling, and cultural engagement. His work spans stage, screen, writing, and project development, shaped by an early and enduring commitment to the arts.
He began acting on stage in Abu Dhabi at the age of six. Growing up across different countries due to his family’s international life gave him an early adaptability and a broad perspective on people, place, and storytelling. As he moved between communities, performance remained a constant, leading him into theatre, directing, and technical production work from a young age.
In Australia, Sebastian became involved in community theatre in Perth and volunteered with Gove Arts Theatre in Nhulunbuy, where he developed practical experience both onstage and behind the scenes, including lighting and special effects. Under the guidance of mentors such as Tilly Todhunter, he deepened his understanding of performance as both a craft and a collaborative discipline. At 17, he made his directorial debut with a production of Mother, an early indication of the wider creative leadership that would continue to shape his path.
He later trained at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where he further developed a multidisciplinary approach to acting, writing, and directing. His creative work has included original theatre-making and performance-led storytelling, including Pocket, a project that reflected his interest in intimate, character-driven work and earned critical recognition.
Alongside his artistic practice, Sebastian is the founder of the Throughline Film Foundation, a Vancouver-based initiative being developed to create educational and culturally grounded film work. Through Throughline, he is building projects that connect narrative storytelling with literature, heritage, and public learning, with a particular interest in works that preserve and illuminate classical and culturally significant texts for contemporary audiences.
Across all of his work, Sebastian is driven by a commitment to meaningful storytelling, artistic rigor, and the belief that film and performance can serve not only as forms of expression, but as vehicles for education, cultural memory, and lasting public value.
